Radiant DIY Skincare: Glow Up with Tap Tap Organics
My journey into skincare formulation began by simply wanting to hand make my own zero waste products. I was pregnant with our first daughter and realized I should not only be mindful of what I ate and put in my body, but also what I applied on my body. And so, I started experimenting by following recipes from online video tutorials and checking out books from the library. I fell in love with the process of experimentation, and over time developed the formulations that are the Tap Tap Organics products you know today.
The three recipes I selected for this post are essential daily products that the whole family can use: a luxurious body honey scrub, a moisturizing lip balm and a natural toothpaste. I designed each recipe with few ingredients and few steps so that even the most beginner to formulation can create their own products. The recipes also call for ingredients that are easy to find and that you likely already have.
I’m posting these recipes on the blog now because I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned and my love for skincare formulation. In the past I held DIY skincare workshops and remember how thrilled people were to take home skincare products they had made with their own two hands.
HONEY BODY SCRUB
Discover the wonders of our DIY Honey Body Scrub, a natural skincare recipe that unveils your skin's radiance. Regular exfoliation with natural ingredients like sugar helps remove dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and stimulating blood circulation.
Our recipe combines sugar for gentle exfoliation, coconut and olive oils for deep moisturization, and honey for its antibacterial and pore-cleansing prowess. Elevate the recipe with your favorite essential oils, providing uplifting, balancing, or relaxing benefits.
For extra sustainability points, store this zero-waste scrub in a reusable jar and purchase the ingredients in bulk. Also, be sure to select certified organic ingredients. Share the eco-conscious love with friends and family, inspiring a shift toward mindful skincare.
Ingredients:
Makes approx 3 fl oz.
- 4 Tbsp (2 fl oz) organic raw sugar
- 2 Tbsp (1 fl oz) organic, virgin coconut oil (or our Head To Toe Beauty Butter)
- 1 1/2 Tsp raw honey
- 1 Tsp organic olive oil
- 2-3 drops essential oil
Directions:
Mix sugar, coconut oil, honey and olive oil. Blend well. Add your favorite essential oil.
Spread on wet skin while showering or bathing. Rinse with water (do not use soap afterwards, you’ll lose the moisturizing ingredients).
Use within 6 months.
LIP BALM
Ingredients:
Makes approx 5-6 tubes
- 4 Tbsp organic coconut oil
- 4 Tbsp organic infused sunflower oil
- 4 Tbsp organic cocoa butter
- 4 Tbsp beeswax (or your favorite plant-based wax such as calendula)
Directions:
Place your ingredients in a glass or Pyrex measuring cup over a saucepan with a few inches of water. Heat at medium-low heat.
Once the ingredients are melted, add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil. I recommend mint or rose absolute (optional).
Carefully pour into tubes or lip balm tines.
Cool until solid.
NATURAL PEPPERMINT TOOTHPASTE
Harness the power of natural ingredients for optimal oral care. Baking soda helps banish plaque and impurities from your teeth. Coconut oil steps in as a moisturizing agent, promoting gum health and a dazzling smile. A touch of peppermint essential oil provides a burst of freshness, leaving your mouth revitalized. Crafted with sustainability in mind, this homemade toothpaste not only cares for your oral hygiene but also promotes eco-conscious living.
For a zero-waste approach, store your toothpaste in a reusable jar, source ingredients in bulk, and share the recipe with friends and family to spread the joy of sustainable oral care. Please note that this recipe might not work for those with sensitive teeth.
